You make the first cut along the fence. Then you must try to adjust the fence the proper distance and make the second cut to expand the width of the dado. The other method is to have a set of fences aligned at each of the scribed lines and then make a cut to complete the dado. Sometimes, a third cut may be necessary for adjustment in these cases. These conventional methods are very time consuming and it is very hard to get a precise fit. Step 2: When making a bookcase with five shelves for example, ten dadoes must be cut. The conventional method requires two fence settings for one dado. Therefore, to complete ten dadoes, at least 20 fence settings are necessary. Sometimes, a third cut may be necessary for adjustment to each dado. this can become a real chore.However, by using the Accurate Guide with just a single fence setting for each dado, ten fence settings are all that are required. A quick calculation shows that the time spent is less than half the conventional method and with much less hassle. Step 3: When the shelf board thickness for dado joints and the width of the sliding dovetail is 1/2" to 1-1/2", use 1/2" a cutting diameter bit. In this case, the test pieces should be inserted intothe Large Pockets on the Accurate Guide. When the shelf board thickness for dado joints or the width of a sliding dovetail is 1/4" to 1/2", use a 1/4" cutting diameter bit.
